Bang the Impeachment Drum

The impeachment drums have been beating this past week (and we'd like to think that our little rants help). Kucinich has, in fact, filed articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney as he said he would (this link, by the way, to AlterNet's review of the whole scene, excellently skewers the mainstream media's response to Kucinich's announcement).

Yesterday, April 28th, was Impeachment action day where activists tried to spell out I M P E A C H anywhere and everywhere they could. One example is the above picture of over 1,500 people spelling out "impeach now!" with their bodies on Owen Beach in San Francisco.

Atlanta was home to several impeachment events, culminating in a candlelight message at a major intersection, Freedom Parkway and Moreland Avenue.

The British newspaper, the Guardian, printed a remarkably accusatorial (and scary) article asserting that George W. and his cohorts are intentionally creating a fascist state in America. According to her article, Fascist America, in 10 Easy Steps, Naomi Wolf argues that W. has satisfied all ten of the following:

1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

Unrelated to the impeachment proceedings, the Bush administration just can't manage to maintain a clean profile these days. Remember how they surfed through the first few years with a seemingly impenetrable Teflon armor? Apparently, our sins catch up with us, even if we're the president of the United States of America.

Randall Tobias, the top foreign aid adviser in the State Department, had to step down this weekend in light of allegations that he was involved with Deborah Jeane Palfrey's beltway prostitution service.

Right now is not a good time to be a Bushy.
